FUEL EFFICIENCY TIPS

December 4, 2022 By Rokkit

With petrol prices rising, we have your best interest at heart!

Follow these steps below to reduce your fuel expenses:

  • Don’t skimp on service, a car can burn up to 30% more fuel if proper maintenance is not performed on a regular schedule.
  • Be wheel wise, check your car’s wheel alignment. Bad wheel alignment causes more friction which takes more power to overcome and results in higher fuel consumption.
  • Keep tabs on tyre pressure, check for underinflated tyres as these also increase resistance.
  • Slow and steady wins the fuel economy race, don’t speed.
  • Plan ahead, do several tasks on one round trip as opposed to many shorter ones.
  • Use Air Conditioning sparingly, using the air con only when necessary, puts less weight on the engine.

CHILD CAR SAFETY TIPS

December 3, 2022 By Rokkit

How to make sure you keep your kids safe in your vehicle:

Find a car seat that fits your child. As children grow, how they sit in your car will change. Make sure the car seat you buy is designed to fit your child’s current size and age.
Make sure that the car seat is the right fit for your car. Not all car seats fit in all cars. Test the car seat you plan to buy to make sure it fits well in your car.
Choose the right direction (rear- or forward-facing).

– Infants (birth to 1 year): should sit in a rear-facing seat with the harness straps at shoulder level

– Toddlers (up to 4 years): if your child is older than 1 year they can sit in forward-facing seats, with the harness straps at their shoulders.

Avoid using an old or second-hand seat.
Teach your child basic vehicle safety tips, like sitting still on the seat, using all parts of the seatbelt to protect themselves, not letting anybody parts hang out of the window, staying calm in the back seat etc.

BASIC CAR CARE TIPS

December 2, 2022 By Rokkit

Basic tips you can use to look after your car:

  • Lighten up your keychain. The weight, combined with bouncing while you drive, can wear out the tumblers inside the ignition and eventually lead to ignition switch failure.
  • Park in the shade. Of course, a garage is always the ideal place to park your car. But if one isn’t available, minimize interior damage from UV sunlight and heat by always trying to park your car in the shade.
  • Remember to use your car mats to protect the inner carpeting. Washing/Replacing the car mats are much easier/cheaper than the inner carpeting. Blasting your car mats when cleaning your car can help get rid of clogged dirt particles.
  • Keep leather from drying out and cracking by using a leather cleaner to remove dirt and stains. Then apply a leather protectant formulated for pigmented or top-coated grain leather.
  • Touch up nicks sooner rather than later.
  • Fix small windshield chips sooner than later.
  • Wash your car regularly. While failing to wash your car won’t result in immediate damage, over time the elements will corrode your vehicle, along with its potential re-sell value.

Arriving Soon – The All-New Isuzu Mu-X

December 2, 2022 By Rokkit

The Mu-X is Isuzu’s most recent triumph and the full-size 7-seater SUV trusted by contemporary families across the world to transport them where they need to go. Designed to cross the most difficult terrain, striking Africa’s landscapes with its presence as well as strength. The Isuzu Mu-X has a rich legacy and track record of performance, with a long and exciting road ahead of it.

It’s the second version of the 7-seater, which debuted in 2018 in the Philippines to compete with the Ford Everest & Toyota Fortuner. The Mu-X is based on the D-robust Max’s body-on-frame construction, but instead of the bakkie’s rear leaf springs, that alone features coil springs as well as a five-link rear suspension to make the ride more comfortable.

The new Mu-X has been restyled and given a much more modern and upscale interior, as well as an increase in capacity.

The Isuzu 3.0L turbo diesel engine is well known for its durability, dependability, and fuel efficiency. It produces plenty of power and torque to easily handle any load. The adaptable second and third-row seats ensure that you can easily find a way to fit your passengers and whatever else you need to bring with you without sacrificing room or comfort.

Also, with ‘Terrain command’ 4WD selecting dial (2WD-high and 4WD-low) is at your fingertips and has never been more fun or feasible. The high-pressure common-rail fuel injection technology reduces the quantity of gasoline used in the combustion process, resulting in increased fuel efficiency. Within its intercooler Variable Geometry System turbocharger, it gives outstanding responsiveness across the engine’s rev range.

While price and product details will be revealed closer to the debut date, Isuzu SA stated that the SUV would be equipped with vehicle safety measures, as well as a multimedia system that has Android compatibility as well as Auto and Apple CarPlay. The external design is heavily influenced by the all-new D-Max, which is set to debut in South Africa in 2022.

While specific drivetrain specs are yet to be verified, the new Mu-X is expected to have the same 1.9-liter (110kW/350Nm) and 3.0-liter (140kW/450Nm) turbodiesel engine as the next D-Max. Given current market conditions, Isuzu may opt to reintroduce the mu-X with a six-speed automatic transmission, available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations.

“The forthcoming Isuzu Mu-X is definitely a game-changer, as it features class-leading driver assistance technologies, new state-of-the-art powertrains, as well as a luxury cabin intended for optimum comfort for seven people.”

Vehicle testing was completed successfully in late 2020, and the vehicle is now being tested under various scenarios to guarantee that it is adequately equipped for South African conditions and at our four Perdeberg Isuzu branches first quarter 2020.

Isuzu D-Max 2022

December 2, 2022 By Rokkit

Perdeberg is really getting excited with the prospect of the new Isuzu D-Max arriving in 2022. The plan is that the new D-Max will be built right here in South Africa for release into the local market. Isuzu is committed to this market, as shown by its decision to acquire light commercial vehicle operations in South Africa, as well as the remaining shareholding in the trucks industry, making it the company’s first wholly-owned subsidiary outside of Japan. The news follows the brand’s R1.2 billion investment in its Port Elizabeth plant last year, which will manufacture the D-Max for both the South African and Sub-Saharan African markets.

The latest D-Max – which, of course, was once known as the KB here in South Africa – was unveiled in Thailand in October 2019 and is already being manufactured for export in that region as well as New Zealand and Australia. The Isuzu bakkie range now includes 30 models for South Africa as well as 13 models for export markets, with both the top-spec versions getting a more luxurious treatment to reflect the more sophisticated specs of top-end customers in this segment.

The new look on the Top-End models is defined by a muscular new chromed radiator grille that covers the front fascia, and also new tapered chromed accents that span the length of the sleeker L-shaped headlight units. The utility box lid now bears the ‘Isuzu D-MAX emblem,’ and the dashboard and door trims have been given a new, higher-quality grain, as well as a piano black coating on the air vent grilles and window controls. The door handles, locking lever, and air vent knobs, on the other.

What’s it feels like to be behind the wheel?

The electronic steering system in the new D-Max is light and precise on the road while being tractable off-road. Furthermore, when it comes to treating bumps and lumps, the suspension is even on, well, considered It’s now possible to assume you’re driving a vehicle with even a 1-tonne payload and towing capability of up to 3 500 kg (braked capacity), which is a significant change over its predecessor’s rural foundations. When driving the Isuzu at highway speeds with little to no freight on the load bed, the more supple ride quality is especially noticeable. There is significantly better suspension stability over uneven tarred surfaces, and it arguably still leads the Ford Ranger in terms of total refinement (wind- and engine noise suppression), but only by a small margin, and it matches its other rivals in this instance.

Here’s looking forward to Isuzu D-Max Gen 7.

December 1, 2022 By Rokkit

And how did Isuzu get given this grand title you ask? A consumer survey that was conducted towards the end of 2019 by the cars.co.za. This survey measures a variety of rather important topics for car buyers and had more than 10 000 participants.

Isuzu D-MAX bakkie could talk

December 1, 2022 By Rokkit

A sat down and Q & A took place where the loved Isuzu D-MAX, South African bakkie, talked about who it is, where it comes from and the ins and outs.

Bakkie-driver: Isuzu D-Max was not always your name? a lot of South Africans still refer to you as the Isuzu KB.

Isuzu D-Max: Ah yes, the good old faithful Isuzu KB. Yes, Isuzu KB was my name but now I hail the Isuzu D-MAX

Bakkie-driver: If we backtrack from the D-MAX, to the KB, when did it all start for you in South Africa?

Isuzu D-MAX: It was the year 1978 that I made my debut in South Africa under the KB badge in Port Elizabeth where I’m still on the production line today.

Bakkie- driver: You’ve probably had a lot of milestones and highlights over the last 41 years?

Isuzu D-MAX: Well, Isuzu was the first to introduce a direct injection engine into the market, and in 1993 it was the first to introduce the much-loved double cab bakkies to the South African market. We also hold 15 local endurance records and we were also the first to feature rack, pinion steering, independent front suspension plus a true body and frame bakkie derived SUV.

Bakkie- driver: Has a lot changed over the last few decades for you?

Isuzu D-MAX: Oh yes, what started out as a 1.6-litre petrol engine or 2.0-litre diesel engine bakkie changed over 6 generations and now boasts the trusty 3.0-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel, with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. And there is also, of course, the D-MAX 250.

Bakkie- driver: That is extensive indeed. And what about modern technology?

Isuzu D-MAX: We’ve embraced modern technology with all four wheels. Today you can connect the music from your phone straight to the bakkie, we have integrated navigation system, you can sync your mobile with the bakkie, answering a call with the touch of a button on the steering wheel, and let’s not forget the aerodynamic design and keyless entry.

Bakkie-driver: Sounds like you’re travelling along the lane of nostalgia?

Isuzu D-MAX: We’ve seen it all, the ups and the downs. We just live up to the promise of maximum durability, maximum reliability and maximum capability.

Bakkie-driver: That hits home, thank you. Any last words, Isuzu D-MAX?

XDIsuzu D-MAX: Yes, I was born ready, where are we going next?

Isuzu adds more choice to the D-MAX range

December 1, 2022 By Rokkit

Isuzu Motors South Africa community stakeholders were invited to the manufacturing plant in Port Elizabet before Isuzu South Africa’s year end shutdown.

Isuzu’s projects and beneficiaries, which include the Isuzu Chair in Mechatronics at the Nelson Mandela University, the Govan Mbeki Mathematics Development Centre, Gift of the Givers, Missionvale Car Centre, the Community Chest Eastern Cape and Indalo World, presented their success stories and projects for 2019 to IMSAf’s leadership team, after which they toured the production plant.

Isuzu’s corporate social responsibility focuses on three core areas which include educational and skills development, environmental management and natural disaster relief support. Each of these organisations address a shortcoming or challenge in the community, therefore the aim is to make a sustainable difference in the areas where the projects are rolled out.

The Govan Mbeki Mathematics Development Centre at the Nelson Mandela University addresses the poor mathematics and physical science learner performance. They developed innovative offline technology-based tool to improve mathematics teaching and learning in disadvantaged schools.

Isuzu also supports the Missionvale Care Centre which extends to the mathematics tuition at the Normovle Primary School which enables the organisation to provide assistance to the indigent.

Disaster relief organisations like Gift of the Givers, are able to deliver water from boreholes to communities in drought-stricken areas with the assistance of Isuzu water tank trucks and bakkies.

On the environmental front Indalo World ensures sustainable social change by turning waste into building material. Kevin Kimwelle, Indalo World architect, has successfully built pre-schools and other structures from waste materials provided by Isuzu.

According to Gishma Johnson, Isuzu’s Corporate Communications Manager, the partnerships with these organisations promise to provide sustainable solutions that alleviate the socio-economic ills which affect vulnerable communities. Recognizing Isuzu’s impact on the community and environment forms an integral part.
