Isuzu is all about sharing the load, and that is why all FX models are fitted with Meritor front and rear axles, widely considered the best axle in the world. Most models come standard with Hendrickson airbag rear suspension, a proven premium component from North America, boasting a capacity of 20,865kg in our 6×2 and 6×4 models.
Safety as Standard
All FX Series cabs comply with the latest ECE-R29 standard, so they are truly world-class. Double side-intrusion bars, seatbelt pre-tensioners and load-limiters, and driver airbag are all standard. Our front axles now come with FUPS (Front Under-run Protection System) meaning you can safely carry up to 6.5 tonnes over the front axle.

Across the range power is derived from a 265 kW (360hp) turbocharged engine which delivers 1 422Nm of torque at 1 400rpm. The use of common rail diesel injection technology with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) ensures the best possible economy while effectively reducing exhaust emissions to levels far below South Africa’s Euro 2 specification.
TRANSMISSION OPTIONS
Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT) is available in four models (FRR 600/FSR 800/FSR 800 Crew Cab and FTR 850) which contributes to easier, more economical operation of the trucks while increasing safety by preventing missed gear changes and allowing the driver to focus more attention on the road.

FX-Series: FXR 17-360 Freighter
The FXR 17-360 is the entry level model to the FX range of trucks, making it the ideal big brother to the F-Series models. The FXR 17-360 is a 4×2 freighter with the fuel efficient 360hp Isuzu motor giving you more performance with improved fuel efficiency. This makes this model another ideal truck for draw-bar trailer applications.

FX-Series trucks boast impressive safety features that include a sophisticated braking system combining ABS stopping power with engine exhaust brakes plus an electromagnetic retarder on the GXR 40-360. In the event of an accident the rigid cab offers a high degree of protection for occupants, while the addition of a driver-side airbag, as well as seatbelts and door beams provides additional safeguards. Cab interiors are comfortable with air-conditioning, radio and electric powered windows to reduce driver fatigue and further enhance safety and productivity.
TOP CLASS FEATURES
All FX Series feature the class leading ISRI 6860 air-suspension driver’s seat. This seat offers lap-sash seatbelt, head restraint, dual-stage air lumbar/lateral support, integrated pneumatic system, adjustable shock-absorber and body-hugging upholstery from head to knee. Sharing the load isn’t just about what’s in the back of the truck.
WORLD CLASS EFFICIENCY
To meet tough Euro V environmental standards a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation system (EGR), have been utilised. The DOC offers greater simplicity for body builders and operators, while the EGR not only reduces harmful emissions, but also delivers improved driveability and enhanced engine braking. Most of all, no particulate filter or the need for AdBlue, so all you need to do is fill it with diesel and drive.

Power is delivered from an Isuzu common-rail turbo-intercooled engine providing 265 kW (360 hp) @ 2000 rpm and 1422 Nm @ 1400 rpm – this represents 61% more torque than the standard F Series.
A standard exhaust gas re-circulation unit ensures that reduced combustion temperatures are an effective means of controlling nitrous oxides exhaust emissions.
This engine exceeds the South African Euro 2 specification and is classed as a Euro 3 unit as part of Isuzu’s environmental care package.
The Isuzu FX Series is fitted with a 9-speed standard gearbox, the ZF 9S1310. Designed as an 8-forward speed transmission for normal use, it incorporates a ‘crawler’ gear for those abnormal situations where an extra-deep ratio is required to get out of a steep gradient from start-up when fully loaded.

A modular approach to cab design and construction means that the Isuzu’s F-Series and FX models all share the same cab. The cab on the FX Series has been position slightly higher and more forward to accommodate a much larger engine. All models are fitted with standard air-conditioning, radio and electric-powered windows that will please drivers and reduce fatigue.
Added personal safety comes from a driver’s airbag. In the event of an accident the rigid cab offers a high degree of protection for occupants, while the addition of a driver-side airbag, as well as seat belts and door beams provides additional safeguards.
A standard 400 litre fuel tank provides adequate range for medium-haul applications.
Service intervals are at a very competitive 20 000 km minimising downtime.
